Are There Different Forms of Ultrasound?
Depending on the images produced, ultrasound can take various forms. In veterinary work, B-mode (brightness-mode) ultrasound, more commonly called two-dimensional ultrasound, is the most common form. This gives a two-dimensional picture of the organ scanned. This is the type of ultrasound that is used to examine abdominal structures, perform pregnancy diagnosis, evaluate cardiac function, and examine the eyes for certain eye diseases.

Will My Dog Need an Anesthetic?
Anesthesia is not usually needed for most ultrasound examinations unless biopsies are to be taken. The technique is totally painless and most dogs will lie comfortably while the scan is being performed. Occasionally, if the dog is very frightened or fractious, a sedative may be necessary.
Is It Necessary to Shave My Pet’s Fur?
In most cases, the fur must be shaved to perform an ultrasound examination. Since ultrasound waves are not transmitted through air, it is imperative that the hand-held probe makes complete contact with the skin. In some cases, such as pregnancy diagnosis, it may be possible to get adequate images by moistening the hair with rubbing alcohol and applying a copious amount of water-soluble ultrasound gel. But don’t worry, this is something we will take care of for you.
When Will I Know the Results of the Examination?
Since an ultrasound study is performed in real-time, the results of what is seen are known immediately. In some cases, the ultrasound images may be sent to a veterinary radiologist for further consultation. When this occurs, the final report may not be available for a few days.

My Aussie Cattle Dog has had some sort of allergic reaction causing him to itch and chew on himself incessantly. Had been going to another vet for over a year to get this taken care of but nothing was resolved. Dr. Benedek at PVS gave him a checkup and a good course of action. My dog is doing better but is still on the road to healing. In my case, the cost to get him better is not cheap (a lot of medications and tests) but it was well worth it.... Read More

I had a fantastic experience at the PetSmart veterinarian services! The vet was incredibly kind, and her supportive staff made both me and my dog feel very welcome. I even bumped into the vet in the lobby, and her friendly energy was so inviting that I decided to register my dog with them as his primary care provider on the spot. I can’t recommend this place enough! As an added bonus we received some free toys, which was a delightful surprise. Overall, a great experience for both me and my puppy.

This place is amazing, the staff is always so thoughtful and caring. Jessica and Armida at the front desk are always so caring to all my pets needs and on top of reminders my pets need. Blair, Ivana, and Gwen are always so sweet and patient with my nervous wreck of a chihuahua and German shepherd. Dr B has been such a knowledgeable doctor to learn from and I have been blessed to have her treat all 3 of my fur babies. I will continue to come here for future exams and care!

First and foremost I'd like to thank the staff of PetSmart Veterinary Services. Thank you deeply. They took me in on a Saturday evening when my pet was really sick, vomiting, diarrhea, and it was the worst thing possible it was Parvo. But Dr. Benedek's and the staff's quick treatment and care saved my puppies life. Now Fifi is thriving and doing so much better.
